Born in Haddington, Willie Wood first represented his country in 1966 and subsequently played in a record-breaking seven Commonwealth Games, winning four medals. He is the most capped Scottish Commonwealth Games athlete ever with 127 appearances for Scotland over the last 40 years. He has also won seven major international tournaments and 14 World Championship medals in his illustrious career. Wood was awarded an MBE in 1992 for Services to Sport.
